Golf: Panthers finish second at Golfweek Fall Invitational

SANDESTIN, Fla. - The LaGrange golf team finished second at the Golfweek Fall Invitational played on the Raven Golf Course. The Panthers beat five teams ranked in the top 10 of the Division III rankings in the three-day tournament.

Junior Cory Howard led the Panthers with a second place finish in the individual standings. Howard had a three-round total of 4-under par 209. He shot a final round 1-over par 72.

Freshmen Logan Lanier and Anthony Scolapio also shot final round 72s. Lanier was seventh overall with a 214 total with Scolapio four shots back at 218. Freshman Osborn Theam shot 77 on Tuesday to finish at 225. Sophomore Alex Ball had a 239 total after shooting 79 in the final round.

Oglethorpe won the tournament, leading after each round with the Panthers second each day. Fifth-ranked St. John Fisher finished third, then No. 3 Guilford, followed by sixth-ranked Rhodes and ninth-ranked USA South member Methodist who tied for fifth.

The Panthers close out the fall portion of their 2013-14 schedule at the O'Briant-Jensen Invitational played on the Sedgefield Country Club Dye Course in Greensboro, N.C.
