Todd Mooney enters his eighth season as head coach of the Panthers
in 2013. The Panthers finished 3-7 overall and 3-4 in the USA South
in 2012, highlighted by a win at eventual conference co-champion
Christopher Newport. Mooney has an overall record of 24-47.
Mooney led LaGrange College to a remarkable season in 2008. He led the Panthers to a 9-2 record, the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III Football Championship playoffs.
Mooney was selected by American
Football Monthly as the NCAA Division III Schutt Sports Coach of
the Year. He was also named the SLIAC Coach of the Year and the
South Region Coach of the Year by D3football.com.
The Panthers posted a perfect 7-0 mark in their first season in the SLIAC. The Panthers swept the conference's player of the year awards and placed 20 players on the All-SLIAC team, including nine on the first team.
As a team, the Panthers set 164
game and season records during the 2008 season. The Panthers had
been 0-10 in each of their first two seasons. The turnaround was
the best in NCAA Division III history.
Mooney was named the first head football coach at LaGrange College in February, 2005. Prior to coming to LaGrange, Mooney was the defensive backs coach and assistant baseball coach at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.
Mooney has been active in every aspect of building the Panther football program. In his first year, Mooney brought in a recruiting class of over 100 players, assembled a coaching staff and helped oversee the construction of new football related facilities.
A Westerville, Ohio, native, Mooney holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in athletic administration from Ohio University. He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Ohio and later was the defensive coordinator and secondary coach for five years at Urbana (Ohio) University.
While at Urbana, Mooney served as interim head coach. Before coming to Rhodes, he worked at Oberlin (Ohio) College as the offensive coordinator for two seasons and offensive line coach for a season, before switching to defense as the coordinator and secondary coach.
Mooney and his wife, Kelly, are the parents of a daughter, Jessica and a son, Todd Jr.
