The 2019 LaGrange College football team went through its first preseason practice Thursday at Callaway Stadium. Second year coach Earl Chambers and the coaching staff welcomed over 120 players.

"I thought it was a good first practice. We had a lot of guys moving around at the same time," Chambers said. "Our goal was to make sure we had everyone get reps and we split practice in some drills but overall, I feel like we're more athletic, a little bit taller, and a little bit bigger. We still have to be a little more disciplined but for a first day it was pretty good.

"Hopefully, were learning how to practice. One thing I do want to see is more senior leadership. We have so many young guys, and you would like to see the older guys take some of these younger guys under their wings and show them the ropes. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with day one, but I want to see a bigger improvement day two."

Chambers also has new additions on the coaching staff. New coaches are: John Cody (H Backs/Tight Ends), Dale Creamer (Running Backs), Rob Randolph (Assistant Offensive Line), Antonio White (Wide Receivers), and Brandon White (Defensive Line).

The Panthers were 3-7 overall last season, including a 2-5 record in the USA South. LC has its traditional opener with Birmingham-Southern on Sept. 7 in Callaway Stadium. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
