The LaGrange football team is fifth in the 2018 USA South Preseason Coaches Poll as released by the conference office. The Panthers were 4-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play last season.
"Obviously I'm not satisfied with the poll but we're not proven either and we have a lot of work to do," said first year head coach Earl Chambers. "Hopefully by the end of the year it will shake out like we want it to be. I don't like to get caught up where we are going to start, it's how you finish. It is what I'm going to preach to the team."
The Panthers return nine starters on offense and five on the defensive side. USA South All-Conference quarterback Connor Blair finished his career holding most the school's passing records. Senior wide receiver Marcus Campbell returns. He was a first team All-Conference selection last season. Campbell led the team with 65 receptions for 807 yards and four touchdowns. The defense is led by senior defensive back Peyton Haynes and senior linebacker Shamar Slappy. Haynes and Slappy tie for second on the team in 2017 with 36 total tackles each.
The Panthers start the 2018 season with their traditional opener against Birmingham-Southern on Thursday, Aug. 30 in Birmingham, Alabama. LC faces nationally-ranked Berry in its home opener Saturday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. FULL 2018 SCHEDULE
