LaGrange and N.C. Wesleyan had a shoot out Saturday in a USA South game at Callaway Stadium. The visiting Bishops spoiled Senior Day with a 48-31 win over the Panthers.
Sophomore quarterback Connor Blair had a record-setting day for the Panthers (2-6, 2-3 USA South). Blair set a new school record of 460 yards passing, breaking Graham Craig's mark of 450 set in 2013 against Birmingham-Southern. He had touchdown passes of 30, 55, and 58 yards in the game.
Junior receiver Marsalis Jackson had a team-high 118 yards on six catches and a touchdown. Junior Ervens Oge had a team-high seven receptions for 110 yards. Lavelle Meeks had 84 yards on three catches and a touchdown. T.J. Anderson's only catch of the game and first of the season went for 55 yards and a touchdown.
The Bishops (4-5, 4-2 USA South) led 24-0 in the second quarter. The Panthers cut it to 24-10 on a 21-yard field goal by Zack Kudwa and Blair's 30-yard touchdown strike to Jackson. The Bishops took a 31-10 lead into halftime.
Anderson's touchdown made it a 34-17 game with 9:37 left in the third quarter. The Panthers closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter on a 14-yard run by Nick Searcy and Meeks' turning a short pass completion into a 58-yard scoring play for the 48-31 final score.
The Panthers close out the 2015 season with a USA South game at Methodist next Saturday.
