Baseball: Austin Fain named USA South Pitcher of the Year; LC places six on all-conference teams

Senior Austin Fain was named the USA South Pitcher of the Year and a first team All-Conference selection as announced by the conference office. Junior designated hitter E.J. Churchich, sophomore outfielder McKinley Erves, freshman outfielder Joe Ruth, junior relief pitcher Spencer Douches, and junior pitcher Richie Post joined Fain on the all-conference teams. Junior catcher Austin McDade is the team's representative on the All-Sportsmanship team.

Fain is 5-0 this season and his 1.70 earned run average is second in the conference. He has appeared in 10 games with nine starts and has a save. Fain has struck out 46 in 47-2/3 innings. He struck out a season-high nine batters in an 11-0 win over William Peace last weekend.

Churchich, Erves, Ruth, and Douches were second team selections. Post was named to the third team. Churchich is batting .302 with 27 RBIs. He is tied for the team lead with four home runs. Erves leads the team and is third in the conference with a .407 batting average. He also leads the team with five triples, a .549 slugging percentage, and a .485 on-base percentage. Ruth leads the team and is tied for eighth in the conference with 40 RBIs. He is second on the team with a .350 batting average and leads the team with 14 stolen bases. Douches is 3-0 with a 0.59 ERA and two saves in 14 appearances. He has struck out 34 in 30-2/3 innings. Post is 6-1, tied for the team lead in wins, and has a 4.70 ERA. He leads the team with 51 strikeouts in 51-2/3 innings. McDade was second on the team with nine doubles. He had a home run and 19 RBIs.
