No. 22 LaGrange celebrated Senior Day with a USA South doubleheader sweep of William Peace at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium on Saturday. The Panthers (26-9, 17-5 USA South) blanked the Pacers (9-26, 5-18 USA South) by scores of 12-0 and 11-0. The first game was called after seven innings due to the 12-run rule.
Fain led the LC pitching staff which limited the Pacers to just seven hits and never allowed a runner past second in the doubleheader. Fain (5-0) faced only one batter over the minimum in seven innings of the second game. He allowed only one hit, walked one, and struck out nine. Richie Post (6-1) scattered three hits over five innings in the first game. Brown threw two scoreless innings of relief to close out the gam.
The Panthers had 20 hits in the twinbill and took advantage of 17 walks issued by the Pacers' pitchers. Jack Layrisson and Austin McDade each had two hits that included a double and three RBIs in Game 1. McKinley Erves also had two hits and scored three runs. Judd Moore, Trey Pearce, and Joe Ruth all had two RBIs. Moore also scored three times. The Panthers scored four in the fourth and six more in the fifth to break the game open. In the second game, the Panthers broke up a scoreless game with a five-run fourth inning. Hollon had the big hit in the inning, a bases-loaded triple to drive in three runs. LC added four runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth for the 11-0 final margin. Pearce finished the game with three hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs.
The Panthers will be the two-time defending champions in next week's USA South Tournament as part of the USA South Spring Festival to be held in LaGrange.
