LaGrange hammered Pfeiffer 13-5 at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium on Sunday. The win enabled the Panthers (24-9, 15-5 USA South) to take the weekend USA South series 2-1.
Juniors Trey Pearce and Austin McDade led LC. Pearce had four hits, including three doubles and drove in two runs. McDade hit his first collegiate home run and had a pair of RBIs. McKinley Erves had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Erves upped his team-leading batting average to .315.
Austin Fain started for the Panthers and went 4-1/3 innings, allowing a run. He escaped bases-loaded jams in the first and third inning before giving way to Gibson Bittner. Bittner (6-3) got the win with two innings of relief.
The Panthers bunched all of their runs between the second and fifth innings. Pearce led off the second with his first double and later scored the game's first run on Jack Layrisson's ground out. LC got three runs in each of the third and fourth innings to go up 7-0. Pearce capped the third with an RBI double and McDade led off the fourth with his first home run, a shot over the left field fence. Erves had his RBI triple in the fourth. LC broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning to go up 13-1.
The Panthers are off until April 19. They will host William Peace in a three-game USA South series to close out the regular season.
