Baseball: No. 20 Panthers bounce back with sweep of Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - No. 20 LaGrange bounced back to sweep Maryville 6-2 and 11-1 on Saturday in a USA South doubleheader. The sweep enabled the Panthers (21-7, 13-4 USA South) take the conference series two game to one. It marked the third time this season LC has lost the first game and come back to win the next two against a USA South opponent.

Game 1
E.J. Churchich led off the sixth inning with his second home run of the series and fourth of the season to break a 2-2 tie. Jack Layrisson added a two-run home in the eight inning for a 5-2 cushion. It was also Layrisson's fourth home run of the year. Richie Post improved to 5-0 on the season, giving up two runs in six innings. Spencer Douches threw three scorless innings to pick up his second save of the season. Cael Chatham had three hits, including a double. Chatham and Trey Pearce had RBI singles in the third and fourth innings to put LC up 2-1.

Game 2
The Panthers scored 10 runs over three innings and never looked back in completing the sweep. LC got four in the second, then three each in the third and fourth innings. The Panthers were aided by seven Maryville errors and 10 walks issued by the Scots' pitching. The Panthers finished with 10 hits. Chatham had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Layrisson and McKinley Erves each had two hits. Rhett Hollon had a two-run double. Austin Fain (4-0) allowed just two hits over six innings to pick up the win. He walked one and struck out five. 

The Panthers host Millsaps in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m.
