Baseball: Big inning propels No. 20 Panthers past Berry 7-4

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - No. 20 LaGrange used a big sixth inning to defeat Berry 7-4 in a non-conference game Tuesday. The win was the sixth straight for the Panthers (19-6) and gave them a split of their two-game season series with the Vikings (18-7).

LC entered the sixth trailing 2-1. The Panthers sent 12 batters to the plate and aided by three Viking errors plated six runs. Jack Layrisson had two of the Panthers' four hits in the inning. Liam Carbone, who had three hits in the game, had an RBI single. 

Cael Chatham's run-scoring single in the third gave LC a 1-0 lead. The Vikings reclaimed the lead with two unearned runs off starter Michael Menheart in the bottom of the fifth. Gibson Bittner (3-3) relieved Menheart and got the final two outs of the inning. Bittner pitched 2-1/3 scoreless innings to get the win. J.R. Robinson pitched 1-1/3 innings and Tanner Chafin closed out the game in the ninth.

The Panthers start a three-game USA South series at Maryville on Friday.
