Baseball: Panthers down No. 20 Piedmont 8-2 to take USA South series

DEMOREST, Ga. - LaGrange downed No. 20 Piedmont 8-2 to take two of three games in their USA South weekend series. It marked the second straight weekend the Panthers (15-6, 8-3 USA South) have beaten a nationally-ranked opponent in a conference series.

LaGrange had 17 hits in the game, with every player in the lineup getting at least one hit. McKinley Erves and Rhett Hollon led the way with three hits each. Erves finished the three-game series 8-for-10 with four RBIs.

Austin Fain improved to 3-0 with 5-1/3 innings of work. Fain gave up a run on just four hits. Tanner Chafin pitched the final 3-2/3 innings, allowing an unearned run to pick up his second save. 

After two scoreless innings, the Panthers scored at least one run over the next six innings. Erves drove in the first run in the third with an RBI single. E.J. Churchich's run-scoring single capped LC's scoring in the eighth.

LaGrange hosts Covenant in a three-game USA South series beginning Friday, March 22.
