Baseball: Panthers blank Berea 8-0 to take USA South series

LaGrange blanked Berea 8-0 in the final game of the two school's USA South series Sunday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers (9-4, 4-1 USA South) took two of three games from the Mountaineers (4-6, 1-2 USA South). 

Three pitchers combined to throw LC's first shutout of the season. Austin Fain (1-0) started for the Panthers. He went five innings, scattering five hits, walked a batter and struck out six. Matthew Becker and Coston Anderson each threw two innings to close out the game, allowing only one hit.

The Panthers had 12 hits on the day. Rhett Hollon, Liam Moreno, and Joe Ruth had two hits each. Hollon had a double included in his two hits. E.J. Churchich also had a double.

LC got all the runs it needed with a five-run second inning. The Panthers opened the inning with Churchich's double, the first of five straight hits. Moreno' first hit put LC up 1-0. Dawson Weaver had a two-run single and Ruth capped the inning with an RBI single.

The Panthers tacked on three more runs in the fourth. Ruth and McKinley Erves had sacrifice flies in the inning.

The Panthers host Emory on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
