LaGrange finished a three-game sweep of Virginia Wesleyan with an 8-5 win Saturday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers upped their record to 5-2, while the Marlins (0-3) are still looking for their first win.

Freshman Michael Menheart (1-0) picked up his first collegiate victory in relief of starter Austin Fain. Menheart went the final 4-2/3 innings, allowing only one hit, walked one, and struck out six.

Fellow freshman Liam Carbone was 4-for-4 at the plate, scoring a run and driving in two more runs. Carbone was 7-for-10 in the series. Senior Ryan Ross had two hits, including a double, scored three runs and had an RBI.

The Marlins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. LC answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, two coming on E.J. Churchich's bases loaded single.

Jordan McDonough led the fourth for VWC with a home run to tie the game. The Panthers came back with two runs to retake the lead. Carbone had a run-scoring single and Cael Chatham's ground out brought home the second run.

Austin Obenhour chased Fain with a two-run home run in the fifth to tie the game for the second time. For the third straight inning, the Panthers retook the lead. Ross drove in the go-ahead run with his double and came around to score on Austin McDade's single to make it 7-5. LC added an insurance run in the seventh on Carbone's fourth hit of the game scoring Ross to make it 8-5.

Weather permitting, the Panthers host Berry on Tuesday at 5 p.m. LC opens USA South play next weekend at N.C. Wesleyan.
