LaGrange ran its winning streak to five games with a 2-1 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The Panthers upped their record to 12-10 on the season.
Stevens (4-6) loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning off starter Dustin Tardy. Tardy got out of the jam with only one run scoring. The Panthers came back in their half of the second inning to get both of their runs. Jack Layrisson and Austin Jones opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Nick Fink reached on an infield hit as Layrisson came all the way around to score the tying run on an error on the play. Jones scored the go-ahead run on Jackson Patrick's sacrifice bunt. Tardy pitched the first three innings and was followed by four relievers. Austin Jones (1-0) got the win with 1-1/3 innings of work. Zach English worked a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the game for his second save of the season. The Panthers finished with eight hits. Jones and Rhett Hollon had two each for LC.
The Panthers host Maryville for a three-game USA South series beginning Friday.
