Baseball: Panthers' rally comes up short in 3-2 loss to Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - LaGrange's late inning rally came up short in a 3-2 loss to Millsaps on Friday at Twenty Field.

Blake Butcher led the Panthers (3-2) at the plate. The junior third baseman was 3-for-3, that included a pair of doubles, and drove in both runs.

The Panthers finished the game with eight hits. Casey Bell was 2-for-2 in the game, while Tavin Thompson had a double included in his two hits.

Ryan Broaderick (0-1) started and took the loss for the Panthers. He pitched into the sixth, allowing all three runs, but only two were earned.

Blake Schuck had two scoreless innings in relief of Broaderick. Andrew Weekley threw a scoreless eighth inning.

The Panthers trailed 2-0 after five innings. They got a run in the sixth to make it 2-1. With one out, Thompson singled and stole second. After Bell walked, Butcher followed with a double to drive in Thompson.

The Majors (2-2) came back in their half of the sixth with a run to go up 3-1. It remained that score until the eighth.

Thompson led off the inning with a double and moved over to third on Bell's sacrifice bunt. He scored as Butcher flew out to left to cut Millsaps' lead to 3-2.

The Panthers play Ozark on Saturday before facing Millsaps again on Sunday.
