Cross Country: Women first, men second at Panther Invitational

The LaGrange  cross country women's team took first and the men second at their own Panther Invitational on Friday. The meet was run at the First Tee Golf Course in LaGrange.

The women edged Chipola by two points, while the men were second to South Georgia State. Sarah Bearden took the women's 6k race in a time of 26:27.6, two minutes ahead of Chipola's Margaret Weideman.

Davida White followed Bearden in a time of 31:25.7 to finish fourth. Ashley Wright was sixth at 33:01.7; Jessica Morton seventh at 34:36.1, and Laura Hayhurst ninth at 36:51.3.

For the men, Chris Smith led the way with a fourth place finish. Smith had a time of 32:39.8 over the 8k course. The Panthers took the 8-11 finishes, beginning with Hiram Haro-Oropeza (33:50.4), John Lynch (34:17.5), Bill Singleton (34:53.5), and Tyler Baars (36:04.1).

Both teams will compete in the Berry Invitational on Oct. 17.
