Cross Country: Panther teams make improvement at Sewanee Invitational

The LaGrange men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Sewanee Invitational hosted by the University of the South.

The Panther teams competed against some of the top teams in the South and conference opponents Covenant and Maryville. For the second meet in a row, freshman Chris Smith led the men while dropping over a minute from his time at last week's 5k Clara Bowl. Junior Lauren Brandner paced the women, also dropping over a minute from her time last week.

"The men placed seventh and were really close in both average time and score to conference rival Maryville while the women's team battled illness and injury and fought through a very tough race," Head Coach Joe Strickland said. "We ran a runner down and that can impact team morale when you start a race knowing that you can't score as a team, but the ladies did not let that get to them and they still ran very hard and pushed to the finish."

All runners on the team had significant improvement from last week. Sophomores Bill Singleton and Asti White, along with junior Will Scruggs, all cut three minutes off of their times from last week.
