Cross Country: Panther teams finish strong in season opening meet

The LaGrange cross country teams got their season off to a strong start at the North Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday. The Panther men took second, while the women came in third in the meet against Reinhardt, Georgia Military College, Toccoa Falls and host North Georgia Tech.

Sophomore Chase McCulley led the men with a sixth place finish with a time of 33:39.90. He bested his time and finish from last year. Freshman Brett Piland finished ninth, following McCulley with a time of 34:23.50.

Freshman John Lynch finished 16th with a time of 36:10.78, followed by freshman Bill Singleton (18th, 37:51.95), freshman Matt Merritt (19th, 39:36.24), sophomore Will Scruggs (24th, 44:08.04) and sophomore Jordan Richardson (26th, 47:42.50).

Sophomore Lauren Brander had a fifth place finish with a time of 25:58.55. Freshman Jessica Morton finished in 10th place with a time of 27:18.63.
Sophomore Ali Bolnick (14th, 27:59.44) followed Brander and Morton. Megan Tipsword beat her best time by over two minutes to finish 18th in a time of 28:20.61. Sophomore Evan Brasselle (22nd, 29:04.79) and senior Meabh Carlin (26th, 31:22.66) rounded out the results for the women.
The Panther teams will run in the North Georgia Invitational next Saturday.
