Volleyball: Panthers clinch berth in USA South Tournament with 3-0 sweep of Agnes Scot

LaGrange clinched its first berth in the USA South Tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Agnes Scott in Richter Gym on Wednesday.

The Panthers (18-10, 7-6 USA South) will be playing in their first conference tournament since 2011 and first as a member of the USA South. They also clinched their first winning season since the 2011 season.

"I'm so proud of this group. We started the season not knowing anything about each other," Coach Suzanne Henson said. "We've played through highs and lows during the season. But I thought this was the best we played as a team tonight."

The Panthers took the match by scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-14. The Panthers scored the first eight points of the first set, then held off a late rally by the Scotties. In the second set, the Panthers led 13-11 before ending the set on a 12-4 run. LC closed out the match in the third set. The Panthers never trailed, scoring the first five points, and building a 20-7 lead at one point.

Maggie Ivestor led the Panthers with nine kills. Emily Arnold and Samantha James added eight each. Lauren Sanders had 20 assists and seven service aces. Sterling Ancrum had 15 digs.

The Panthers will play Agnes Scott again on Friday on the Scotties' home court. They will also play Rust as part of the tri-match.
