Volleyball: Panthers down Salem and Pensacola Christian in tri-match Saturday

LaGrange took a pair of matches on Saturday in a tri-match at Richter Gym. The Panthers (17-10, 6-6 USA South) edged Salem 3-2 in a USA South match, then swept Pensacola Christian 3-0 in a non-conference match.

Salem won the first set 25-13, before the Panthers came back with 25-20 and 25-23 wins in the next two sets. The Spirits forced a deciding fifth set with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.

The Panthers grabbed a 12-3 lead in the final set before Salem rallied to get within two. The Panthers got the final two points to take the set 15-11 and the match.

Lexi Hall had a double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs to lead the Panthers. Maggie Ivester also had a double-double of 10 kills and a team-leading 14 digs. Lauren Sanders and Libby Compton combined for 51 assists, with Sanders finishing with 28.

The Panthers finished the day by sweeping Pensacola Christian 25-10, 25-18, and 25-16. Hall had 12 kills, while Ivester and Nachelle Roberts each had 10. Ivester led the team with 14 digs, while Sanders and Compton each had 19 assists.

The Panthers host Agnes Scott on Wednesday in a USA South match starting at 6:30 p.m.
