Volleyball: Panthers defeat Piedmont for first time since 2005 to even USA South record

DEMOREST, Ga. - LaGrange ended a long drought against Piedmont with a 3-1 win in a USA South match Saturday in Cave Arena.

The Panthers (15-9, 5-5USA South) ended a 24-match losing streak to the Lady Lions going back to the 2005 season. LC won the first two sets by 25-23 scores before Piedmont (10-10, 3-6 USA South) kept the match going by winning the third set 25-18.

In the fourth set, the Panthers built a 14-9 lead. The Lady Lions cut it to one before Maggie Ivester ended the match with a kill off an assist from Lauren Sanders for the 25-23 final.

Lexi Hall had a double-double of 12 kills and 11 digs for the Panthers. Samantha James added 11 kills, while Ivester finished with eight. Sanders led the team with 25 assists and Sterling Ancrum had team-best 24 digs.

The Panthers play at West Division-leading Covenant on Wednesday. The Scots are also the defending conference champions.
