Volleyball: Panthers celebrate Senior Night by topping Huntingdon in USA South match

LaGrange celebrated Senior Night by topping Huntingdon 3-1 in a USA South match Thursday in Richter Gym.

The Panthers' lone senior, Ali Hudgins, was honored in a ceremony before the match. Hudgins tied with Maggie Ivestor for team honors with 11 kills in the match, and added three block assists.

The win completed a season sweep of Huntingdon (13-20, 3-11 USA South) by the Panthers (13-18, 2-12 USA South). The Panthers took the first two matches by 3-2 scores.

The Panthers took the first two sets Thursday, winning 25-13 and 25-17. The Lady Hawks took the third set 25-17 to keep the match alive.

The Panthers led 21-17 before the Lady Hawks ran off seven straight points to get within a point of evening the match. But the Panthers recovered with five straight points to take the set 26-24 and the  match. Lauren Sanders' service ace clinched the match for the Panthers.

Ivester added 10 digs for a double-double. Aspen Coggins led the team with 21 digs, while Sanders had 22 assists.

The Panthers close out the 2016 season with USA South matches against Greensboro and Mary Baldwin on Saturday at Huntingdon in Montgomery, Ala.
