Volleyball: Panthers, Maryville go five sets for second time this season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - LaGrange took two-time defending USA South champion Maryville to five sets for the second time this season at the USA South Tri-Match on Saturday hosted by Huntingdon College.

Maryville took the first set 25-18, but the Panthers bounced back with a 25-15 win in the second set to even the match. The Scots took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-15 third set win.

In the fourth set, the Panthers led 23-18 only to have the Scots score the next six points to take a 24-23 lead. But the Panthers rallied to score the final three points of the set to take it 26-24.

In the deciding fifth set, the Scots were able to pull away to take the set 15-7 and the match.

Maggie Ivester tied for match honors with 12 kills and added 15 assists. Danyelle Carr added 10 kills. Lauren Sanders had a double-double of 25 assists and 14 digs. Aspen Coggins and Lexi Hall each had 16 digs to lead the Panthers.

In the first match of the day, Covenant downed the Panthers 3-0, winning 26-24, 25-19, 25-15. Carr and Hall each had six kills. Coggins had a team-high 18 digs.

The Panthers travel to Piedmont on Tuesday for a USA South match at 6:30 p.m.
