Volleyball: Panthers win in five-set thriller against Huntingdon; split two matches Saturday

SEWANEE, Tenn. - LaGrange won a five-set thriller against Huntingdon in splitting two matches Saturday. The split left the Panthers 6-3 on the season. 

Huntingdon took the first set 25-15. The Panthers bounced back with 25-21, 25-15 wins in the next two sets. The Hawks forced a fifth set with a 25-21 fourth set win.

Huntingdon led 9-5 in the deciding set. The Panthers reeled off five straight points to go up 10-9, the last point coming on a kill by Danyelle Carr.

With the set tied at 11, Carr delivered another kill and Aspen Coggins served up an ace for a 13-11 lead. A kill from Maggie Ivester followed by an attack error by the Hawks gave the Panthers the set and the match.

Carr and Ivester each had 11 kills in the match for the Panthers, with Lexi Hall adding 10 more. Lauren Sanders had a double-double of 34 assists and 14 digs, while Coggins had a match-high 24 digs.

Host Sewanee turned back the Panthers in the final match of the day 3-0, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-18.

Emily Arnold led the Panthers with eight kills, while Nachelle Roberts had seven. Sanders and Coggins had match-highs of 27 assists and 24 digs.

The Panthers play at Brenau in Gainesville, Ga. on Tuesday.
