Volleyball: Panthers split two matches at USA South quad match

LaGrange split a pair of USA South matches during a USA South Quad Match hosted by the Panthers on Saturday in Richter Gymnasium.

The Panthers (10-12, 2-4 USA South) swept N.C. Wesleyan 3-0 before William Peace topped them 3-1 in the final match of the day.

The Panthers opened the day by beating the Bishops 25-21, 25-20, 25-23. Sydney Marshall tied for match honors with 11 kills to lead the Panthers, while Katie Chancellor added 10.

Mary Katherine Schmitz had a double-double of 29 assists and 10 digs. Maggie Iverster had a match-high 18 digs.

In the second match, the Pacers got off to a quick start to take the first set 25-22. The Panthers roared back with a 25-10 win in the second set to even the match. But the Pacers took the next two sets 25-19 and 25-17 to take the match.

Chancellor and Danyelle Carr each had eight kills for the Panthers. Schmitz had 27 assists, while Aspen Coggins had a team-high nine digs.

The Panthers play Meredith and Methodist in a USA South Quad Match in Raleigh, N.C. next Saturday.
