Volleyball: Panthers down Huntingdon in five sets to gain split of USA South matches

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - LaGrange downed Huntingdon in five sets to gain a split on the first day of USA South play. The Panthers (7-9) lost to Piedmont in their first match of the day before bouncing back with the win over the host Hawks.

The Panthers beat Huntingdon 25-18, 24-26, 25-19, 21-25, 15-8. Freshmen Emily Arnold, Danyelle Carr and sophomore Katie Chancellor combined for 36 kills in the match.

Carr tied for match honors with 13, while Chancellor added 12 and Arnold 11. Chancellor had a .333 attack percentage in the match.

Mary Katherine Schmitz had a season and career high 47 assists. Aspen Coggins tied for match honors with 18 digs.

Piedmont beat the Panthers 25-22, 25-14, 25-13. Arnold led the team with seven kills, with Carr adding six and Sydney Marshall five. Coggins also had 18 digs, while Schmitz had 25.

The Panthers host Wesleyan on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
