Volleyball: Panthers edge North Carolina Wesleyan in USA match

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - LaGrange won the deciding fifth set to edge North Carolina Wesleyan 3-2 in a USA South match Saturday. The win gave the Panthers a split for the day, after a 3-0 loss to William Peace.

The Panthers (7-12, 2-4 USA South) won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-15 against the Bishops (4-15, 3-6 USA South). The Bishops came back to force the fifth set with 25-7 and 25-20 wins in the third and fourth sets.

The Panthers controlled the final set, winning 15-5. Senior Hayley LaFontaine and freshman Katie Chancellor each had nine kills in the match. Freshman Delaney James and sophomore Ella Weymiller had match highs of 33 assists and 28 digs respectively.

Chancellor had eight kills in the first match of the day against William Peace. James had 12 assists and Sterling Ancrum had 12 digs. 

The Panthers host Agnes Scott in a non-conference match in Richter Gym on Wednesday.
