Volleyball: Panthers host Oglethorpe in newly named Lee Richter Gymnasium

The LaGrange volleyball team hosted Oglethorpe on Thursday in the newly named Lee Richter Gymnasium. The gym was named in honor of the Panthers' long-time golf coach.

Freshman Mary Katherine Schmitz had a double-double of 22 assists and 11 digs along with six kills to lead the Panthers. Senior Leslie Rhoades led the team with eight kills. Sterling Ancrum and Megan Lee also had six kills each. Lee and Ella Weymiller had 10 digs each.

Oglethorpe, led by McKenna Bondarenko's double-double of 18 kills and 13 digs, won the match 3-0. The Stormy Petrels edged the Panthers 25-23 in the first set, then took a 2-0 lead with a 25-12 win in the second set. The third set went back and forth before Oglethorpe closed the match with a 25-22 victory.

The Panthers open USA South play with a tri-match against Huntingdon and Piedmont on Saturday in Demorest, Ga.
