Volleyball: Panthers sweep Toccoa Falls 3-0

LaGrange swept Toccoa Falls 3-0 in a non-conference match Wednesday at the CEB Gym. The Panthers raised their season record to 5-14, while the Eagles slipped to 11-13.

The win was the second of the season for the Panthers over the Eagles. The Panthers rallied to win the first match 3-2 at Toccoa Falls on Sept. 12.

Katie Covington and Nicole Wilson combined for 23 kills for the Panthers. Covington had a match-high 12 kills and 15 digs for her third double-double of the season. Wilson finished with 11 kills and a .667 attack percentage.

Ella Weymiller led both teams with 20 digs.  Erin McKinstry had a double-double of 37 assists and 10 digs.

The Panthers used a 12-0 run in winning the first set 25-9. In the second set, the Panthers trailed 16-13 before taking a 21-17 lead. The Eagles tied the set at 23 before Leslie Rhoades scored off a kill and a service ace for the 25-23 win.

The third set was all Panthers. Leading 8-4, they went on a 12-2 run to open up a 20-6 lead. The Panthers went on to win the set 25-10 to take the match.

The Panthers host Mary Baldwin and William Peace in USA South matches Saturday.
