MONTGOMERY, Ala. - LaGrange College split GSAC matches with Huntingdon and Covenant on Saturday at Wilson Gym. The Panthers defeated Huntingdon 3-1 before losing 3-0 to Covenant.
The Panthers (13-10, 4-1 GSAC) defeated the Lady Hawks for the second time this season; winning the first meeting 3-1 at the McK Attack Tournament in Birmingham on Sept. 3.
The loss to Covenant snapped the Panthers' six-match winning streak. The win streak was the longest by a Panther team since the 2004 season.
In the first match, the Panthers beat Huntingdon by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-21. Junior Erin McKinstry broke the school record for assists in a match for the second straight match. McKinstry finished with 59 assists, breaking her record set Tuesday against Toccoa Falls.
Freshman Ashley Corona led the Panthers with a match and season-high 20 kills. She was on of four Panthers with double figures in kills. Katie Covington had 18, Hayley LaFontaine 12 and Mary Ann Washichek had 10. LaFontaine had a attack percentage of .478.
Crystal Colvin had a match-high 26 digs. Kristen Barton had 17 and Covington 13 for her team-leading 11th double-double of the season.
Covenant swept the Panthers in the second match by scores of 25-9, 25-21 and 25-20. Covington had her streak of double-doubles end at four. She finished with nine kills and 12 assists. McKinstry had 26 assists, while Colvin led the team with 13 digs.
