Volleyball: Panthers split GSAC matches with Salem, Piedmont

LaGrange College hosted Piedmont and Salem in a GSAC tri-match Saturday in the CEB Gym. The Panthers swept Salem 3-0 before losing in three hard fought games with Piedmont. The split left the Panthers 7-9 overall.

The Panthers opened the day with the sweep of the Spirits (1-9, 0-2 GSAC). The Panthers took the match by scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 31-29.

Katie Covington had a team-high 16 kills. Mary Ann Washichek added six kills and nine digs. Courtney Bishop had five kills. Crystal Colvin had a team-high 17 digs, while Erin McKinstry had 18 assists.

Piedmont beat the Panthers 25-22, 25-23 and 25-23. The Panthers trailed 18-11 in the third set before rallying to tie it at 20-20. The Lady Lions closed out the match from there.

Covington had her seventh double-double of the season in the match. She had 13 kills and digs each. Washichek recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and digs each. Ashley Corona added 10 kills, while McKinstry had a double-double of her own with 40 assists and 12 digs.
