Volleyball: Panthers open 2011 season on the road against Brenau

The LaGrange College volleyball team opens its 2011 season Thursday night at NAIA member Brenau in Gainesville, Ga. The match begins at 7 p.m. The match is the first of five for the Panthers this week.

This is the first of two meetings between the Panthers and Brenau. The Panthers host the Golden Tigers Friday, Oct. 7 in the CEB Gym. Brenau opened its 2011 season with a 3-0 home win over Reinhardt on Tuesday. The Golden Tigers were 7-23 in 2010.

The Panthers hold a 9-8 advantage in the series with the Golden Tigers, who have won six straight heading into Thursday. The last LaGrange win came in 1999.

After the Breanu match, the Panthers travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the McK Attack Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Panthers face Stillman and tournament host Birmingham-Southern on Saturday. They finish the tournament Sunday against GSAC foes Huntingdon and Piedmont in non-counting conference matches.

Julie Moses begins her fourth year as the Panthers' head coach. The Panthers were 7-23 last season, including 3-4 in the GSAC. The Panthers return junior Katie Covington, who earned GSAC All-Conference honors in both volleyball and basketball.
