Piedmont College downed LaGrange College 3-1 at the CEB Gym on Friday night. The loss dropped the Panthers to 4-18 for the season.
Piedmont took the match by scores of 25-10, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-14. It was the second win for the Lady Lions over the Panthers this season, winning 3-0 on Oct. 16.
Katie Covington had a double-double for the Panthers. She had 16 kills and 13 digs. Hayley LaFontaine added 10 kills, while Erin McKinstry had 23 digs and Crystal Colvin 20 digs.
The Panthers opened the scoring in the first set but never led again in the set. Piedmont went on an 11-3 run to open up a 17-7 lead. The Panther never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.
In the second set, the Panthers fell behind 13-7. They rallied to tie it at 17 on a kill by Covington. The Lady Lions closed out the set by taking eight of the final nine points.
The Panthers built a large lead and held off a Piedmont rally to take the third set. The Panthers broke a 6-6 tie with six straight points to take the lead for good. Covington closed out the set with a cross court shot for her seventh kill of the set.
Piedmont broke open the fourth and final set. The Lady Lions went on an 8-1 run to open up a 16-7 lead. The Panthers never got closer as the Lady Lions closed out the match with a 25-14 win.
The Panthers host Agnes Scott and Wesleyan in GSAC matches Saturday beginning at noon.
