Panthers sweep GSAC matches from Wesleyan, Agnes Scott

LaGrange College swept a pair of GSAC matches at the CEB Gym on Saturday. The Panthers beat Wesleyan 3-0 and Agnes Scott 3-0 to up their overall record to 6-18 and 3-4 in the conference.

The Panthers downed Wesleyan (1-15, 0-6 GSAC) 25-12, 25-12 and 25-9. They finished the day by sweeping Agnes Scott (5-12, 2-5 GSAC) 25-21, 25-19 and 25-12.

The Panthers never trailed in their match with Wesleyan. Katie Covington had a match-high 11 kills for the Panthers. Erin Hazelrig had nine kills and an attack percentage of .692. Hazelrig also led the team with nine digs.

Covington also led the Panthers with a match-high nine kills against Agnes Scott. Leslie Rhoades added seven kills, while Crystal Colvin had a match-high 16 digs. Erin McKinstry finished the two matches with 61 assists.

Agnes Scott jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first set. Trailing 13-7, the Panthers ran off 13 straight points to go up 20-13. The Scotties never got closer than the final four point margin the rest of the way. Hazelrig had back-to-back kills to put the Panthers ahead to stay.

The Panthers never trailed in the final two sets. They opened up an early 12-3 lead in the second set and went on to take the set 25-19. The Panthers cruised in the third set to close out the match. They led by seven in the early going and led by as many as 14 late in the set.

The Panthers close out the regular season at the Rhodes Tournament in Memphis, Tenn. on Oct. 30-31.
