The Panthers opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over Rust. The
Panthers took the match by scores of 25-10, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-12.
Freshman Erin Hazelrig led the Panthers with eight kills. Hannah
Brooks and Connie Russell each had seven kills. Kayla Black added
six kills and a team-high 25 assists. Russell led the team with
seven service aces.
The Panthers edged Sewanee 3-2 for their second straight win. The
Panthers won the match by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 20-25 and
15-4. Senior Sarah Newland had a double-double of 16 kills and 18
digs to pace the Panthers. Russell followed with 13 kills. Black
had 37 assists, while Crystal Colvin had a team-high 25 digs.
Mississippi College downed the Panthers 3-0 by scores of 25-15,
25-23 and 25-20. Newland recorded her second straight double-double
with 10 kills and 13 digs. Black added 22 assists, while Colvin led
the team again with 15 digs.
The Panthers finished the tournament with a 3-2 loss to GSAC-rival
Huntingdon. The Panthers fell by scores of 17-25, 25-7, 25-18,
21-25 and 13-15. Newland led the team with 13 kills, while Brooks
and Hazelrig each had 11 kills. Brooks also added three solo blocks
and block assists each. Black had another 41 assists, finishing the
tournament with 125. Colvin led the team for the third straight
match with 27 digs.
The Panthers face Oglethorpe on Tuesday in Atlanta beginning at 7
p.m.
