Panthers sweep Agnes Scott
The Panthers won the first set 25-19. They took the second 25-17 and closed out the match with a 25-23 win.
Freshman Anna Byars led the Panthers with a match-high nine
kills. Freshman Erin Hazelrig added six kills. Byars missed a
double-double by one kill after also having a match-high 13
digs.
The Panthers trailed 2-0 in the first set. They ran off five
straight points to take a 5-2 lead and never trailed again. The
Panthers led by as many as eight points twice in the set. Abbye
Clevenger's kill closed out the set off an assist from Kayla
Black.
The Panthers never trailed in the second set. Leading 8-7, the
Panthers pulled away with an 8-0 run. Hazelrig had two kills during
the run. Hannah Brooks' service ace ended the set.
The third set was a back-and-forth affair. There were nine ties and
three lead changes. Byars' service ace put the Panthers ahead to
stay, 16-15. Trailing 20-15, the Scotties came back to tie the set
at 22. But a kill by Black and one by Bianca Rivas gave the
Panthers the 25-23 win to close out the match.
The Panthers travel to Maryville, Tenn. on Saturday for matches
against Salem and Maryville.
