Panthers fall to Piedmont in GSAC match

Piedmont took the match by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-15. Heather Stafford led the Lady Lions with 10 kills. Tyler Baldonado had a match-high 33 assists.

Sarah Newland tied Stafford for match honors with 10 kills to lead the Panthers. Hannah Brooks added seven kills, a solo block and two block assists. Kayla Black had a double-double of 20 assists and 10 digs. Crystal Colvin led the Panthers with 15 digs.

The Panthers led most of the first set. They held a 20-16 lead after a service error by the Lady Lions. But Piedmont went on a 7-0 run to take a 23-20 lead.

The Panthers came back to tie the set at 23 with kills by Newland and Erin Hazelrig. The Lady Lions took the final two points to win the set, the last coming on a kill by Stafford for the 25-23 final.

Piedmont controlled the final two sets. The Lady Lions did not trail in taking the second set 25-18. The Panthers led briefly in the early going of the third set before the Lady Lions went on to take the set and the match.

The Panthers host Huntingdon on Tuesday in a GSAC match beginning at 6 p.m.
