Women's Soccer: Panthers, Piedmont battle in USA South match

Andrea Richard scored her third goal of the season as LaGrange and Piedmont battled in a USA South match Saturday at Panther Field.

Piedmont (14-1-1, 8-1-1 USA South) came away with a 4-1 win over the Panthers (4-13, 2-7 USA South). All of the scoring came in the second half, as the teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half.

The Lady Lions got the first goal of the game less than three minutes into the second half. The score started a scoring spree with the two teams scoring four goals in a five-minute span.

Richard tied the match one minute later for the Panthers. She launched a shot from 30-yards out that went through the Piedmont goalkeeper's hands for the score. The goal was Richard's third of the season.

Piedmont came right back with two goals in two minutes to make it 3-1. The Lady Lions added an insurance goal later in the half for the 4-1 final.

The match was the final home one of the season. The Panthers play at Methodist and N.C. Wesleyan next Saturday and Sunday in USA South matches.
