Women's Soccer: Piedmont tops Panthers 4-1

DEMOREST, Ga. - LaGrange's 2012 season ended with a 4-1 loss at Piedmont on Wednesday. The Panthers finished the season 9-11, tying the school record for wins in a season.

Piedmont (13-5-1, 6-4-1 USA South) will be the fifth seed in the conference tournament beginning Saturday. The Lions will play at fourth-seeded Meredith.

Piedmont built a 3-1 halftime lead. Macie Rooke scored off a pass from Kelsey Schaffernoth just three minutes into the game for the Lions. Laura Goodwin scored off a rebound for a 2-0 lead less than 11 minutes into the first half.

The Panthers came back to cut the Lions' lead in half. Andrea Richard scored off a free kick from 30 yards out to make it 2-1. Rooke answered for the Lions with her second goal of the half to make it 3-1.

Piedmont closed out the scoring in the second half. Taylor Hockley scored off a header for the 4-1 final.

The game was the final one for seniors Taylor Baldwin, Turner Davis, Caitlin Doerr, Angie Forero and Mendi Kallam.
