DECATUR, Ga.- The Great South Athletic Conference office announced the 2011 women's soccer conference awards. The awards will be given between the semifinal games at the GSAC Championship tournament hosted by LaGrange College.
LaGrange had 11 players earn GSAC awards. Sophomores Hope Sims and Shelby Stanfield were selected to the GSAC All-Conference team. Elise Hopson was named to the GSAC All-Freshman team. Sims and eight others earned GSAC All-Academic honors.
Stanfield has played in all 18 games this season with 14 starts. She is second on the team in goals scored with five and points with 11. Sims, a transfer in her first year, has played in all 18 games with 17 starts. As a defender, she anchored the defense which has six shutouts this season and has allowed 13 less goals than the year before.
Hopson is leading the Panthers in scoring. She has a team-best six goals and 14 points. Hopson also leads the team with two game-winning goals.
Sims, Taylor Baldwin, Kristin Bird, Angie Forero, Brittany Gray, Mendi Kallam, Mary Robertson, Rachael Stevenson and Chelsea Totaro earned GSAC All-Acadmic honors. An individual must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better to qualify for all-academic honors.
