Women's Soccer: Covenant edges Panthers 2-1 in overtime

Covenant College edged LaGrange College 2-1 in overtime Saturday at Panther Field in a GSAC match. The Lady Scots evened their season record at 6-6-2 and are 2-0 in conference play. The Panthers are 3-9-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the conference.

Covenant enjoyed a 15-3 shot advantage in the match. The Panthers had only two shots on goal, both by Mendi Kellam. Goalkeeper Chelsea Totaro had four saves for the Panthers.

The Lady Scots scored in just the second minute of the match. Kara Lee scored with an assist from Katelyn Newsom for a 1-0 lead. It remained that score until the second half.

Kellam tied the match for the Panthers in the 59th minute. She blasted a free kick from 25 yards out past goalkeeper Lucy Johnson to make it 1-1. The goal was Kellam's first of the season.

Covenant got the game winner three minutes into the first overtime period. Mo Cross' shot the bar and bounced into the net to give the Lady Scots the 2-1 win.

The Panthers play at Huntingdon on Tuesday in a GSAC match.
