Women's Soccer: Panthers blank Crusaders on Pink Out Day

LaGrange College blanked visiting Tennessee Temple 3-0 on Saturday to pick up its second win of the season. The Panthers (2-6-1) had a Pink Out Day against the Crusaders (1-10) to raise funds for breast cancer awareness.

The Panthers dominated the Crusaders end to end the entire match. The Panthers had a 23-2 shot advantage in the match, with nine shots on goal. Panther goalkeeper Kristin Bird did not have to make a save in getting the shutout.

The Panthers opened the scoring in the 14th minute of the match. Racheal Stevenson sent a cross pass into the box where Elise Hopson put the ball past goalkeeper Jess Selera for a 1-0 lead. It was Hopson's first goal of the season.

Twelve minutes later, LaGrange padded its lead to 2-0. Kaylan Whetstone took a through ball from Brittany Gray and broke upfield. She beat a defender and put the shot past Selera for her first goal of the season. The Panthers took the lead into halftime.

Gray finished the scoring in the 83rd minute. She took advantage of a turnover in front of the goal and put the ball in the back of the net for a 3-0 lead. Like Hopson and Whetstone, it was also Gray's first goal of the season.

The Panthers play at NCAA Division II member West Alabama on Sunday.
