Women's Soccer: Panthers fall to Montreat

Visiting Montreat handed LaGrange its fifth straight loss, blanking the Panthers 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Panther Field. The match was called with five minutes remaining because of lightning.

The Panthers were outshot 14-2 and had only one shot on goal against the Cavaliers (7-2-1). Panther goalkeeper Chelsea Totaro had two saves in the match.

Montreat scored in the 25th minute of the first half. Hannah Madsen beat a defender, then sent past Totaro for the goal. The Cavaliers carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Panthers' only scoring chance came in the second half in the 75th minute. Shelby Stanfield took Caroline Yates' corner kick and shot from inside the box. Montreat goalkeeper Caroline Mellard made the save to keep the Panthers' off the board.

The Cavaliers got an insurance goal just before the match was called. Miranda McCrary scored off an assist from Stephanie Liles for the 2-0 final.

The Panthers play at Agnes Scott on Saturday in a GSAC match.
