Panthers lose two at Georgia Southwestern tournament

Americus, Ga. – LaGrange College went 0-2 at the Quality Inn/Hurricane Invitational played Saturday and Sunday. The losses left the Panthers 1-3 on the season.

The Panthers lost 3-2 to Florida College on Saturday. They lost 2-1 in overtime Sunday to tournament host Georgia Southwestern.

In Saturday's game, Florida (2-3) opened the scoring on a goal by Monica Hall with 12 minutes left in the first half. The Panthers answered with the tying goal less than a minute later as Stephanie Fowler scored with an assist from Shelby Stanfield.

Lacey Milwee scored with 35 seconds left in the half to put Florida up 2-1 at halftime. Milwee scored her second goal 15 minutes into the second half, giving Florida a 3-1 lead.

The Panthers closed within a goal with 17 minutes left in the game. Brittany Gray scored from 20 yards out after taking a pass down the right side from Rachel Stevenson.

Chelsea Totaro had three saves in goal for the Panthers. The Panthers had only five shots on goal to Florida's 10.

The tournament host Hurricanes (2-2) got a goal from Brittney Hill with 2:18 left in the second overtime to edge the Panthers on Sunday. The Hurricanes had tied the game early in the second half on a goal by Meghan Ward.

The Panthers scored 11 minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead. Mary Robertson with an assist from Gray scored her team-leading third goal of the season.

Totaro had eight saves in goal for the Panthers. The Panthers had only two shots on goal in the game.

The Panthers host Oglethorpe University on Thursday at 7 p.m.
