Madeline LaCavera and Rachael Thomas each had career highs to lead LaGrange to a 27-1 win over Brenau on Monday. With the win, the Panthers are 2-0 to start a season for the first time in the program's history. The Tigers were playing their first ever game.
LaCavera led LC with seven goals and Thomas followed with five. A total of nine Panthers scored in the game. Brie Shepler (4), Eva Tallent (3), Davida White (2), Kylie Reynolds (2), Lauren Sanders (2), Sarah Gilbrook (1), and Megan French (1) rounded out the scoring. LaCavera also had three assists, while Tallent, Thomas, and Madison Fountain all had two.
The Panthers set a new school record with the 27 goals, eclipsing the mark of 24 set in 2015 against Truett-McConnell. LC scored 16 goals in the first half for the third time in the program's history. The last time was against Hollins last season.
The Panthers open USA South conference play Sunday against Meredith. Game time is 12 p.m. Meredith is the four-time defending conference tournament champion.
