BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Kelsey Griffin had a career day in tying a pair of school records as LaGrange went on the road Wednesday to face Birmingham-Southern.
Birmingham-Southern (2-1) outscored the Panthers (1-3) 19-10 in the non-conference game. The Panthers open USA South play this weekend with games Saturday and Sunday against Meredith and N.C. Wesleyan.
Griffin had a career-high seven goals to lead the Panthers' attack. She tied Crystal Colvin's single-game record for goals set against Reinhardt in 2011 and her own record of 12 shot attempts set last season against Agnes Scott. In addition, Griffin led the team with six ground balls and draw controls each.
The host Panthers took a 5-0 lead in the game's first 10 minutes. Griffin rallied her team, scoring the first four goals for the Panthers. Alexis Dillard's goal got the Panthers within two, 7-5, with nine minutes left in the first half.
Birmingham-Southern scored five of the final six goals of the half to lead 12-6. In the second half, Griffin and Ashley Davis closed out the scoring with goals in the final two minutes for the 19-10 final.
Freshman goalkeeper Kallie Brook faced 29 shots and had 10 saves in the game.
