The LaGrange lacrosse team battled visiting Emmanuel down to the wire Thursday at Panther Field. The Lions (2-1) took a hard-fought 18-13 win over the Panthers (0-2).
Emmanuel led 4-1 almost nine minutes into the first half. The Panthers had five different players get a goal during the next 13 minutes to go up 6-5.
Monroe scored her second goal of the half to tie the game 7-7. Griffin's second goal tied the game again at 8. But the Lions got a goal in the closing seconds to lead 9-8 at halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers trailed 14-9 with 12:49 left. They got within two, 14-12, on back-to-back goals from Griffin.
Griffin's final goal of the game cut the deficit to 15-13 with 6:10 left. The Lions scored three insurance goals for the 18-13 final.
The Panthers host Columbia (S.C.) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
