Lacrosse: Meredith edges Panthers 8-7 in USA South opener
The LaGrange lacrosse team fell in a close contest to the visiting Avenging Angels of Meredith College, 8-7, on Sunday afternoon at Panther Field. The home opener marks the first taste of USA South Conference action of the season.
Sophomore Olvia Monroe led the Panthers' attack with three goals, while junior Kelsey Griffin added two. Sophomore Ashley Davis and freshman Alexis Dillard each contributed one. Davis, along with sophomore Sophia Durand, added an assist to help in the offensive effort.
Defensively for the Panthers, senior Tiffany Dillard recorded game highs of seven caused turnovers and four draw controls, while collecting four groundballs. Davis and newcomer Raquel Manzo each recorded three draw controls and three groundballs.
Junior Chelsea Totaro had a strong showing in the goal for the Panthers, collecting seven saves and causing two turnovers.
The Panthers stayed even with the Avenging Angels, with a halftime score of 5-5, but fell short in the final minutes of the game after Alexis Dillard's goal made it 8-7.
The Panthers will return to action on the road at Huntingdon College on Tuesday, Feb. 26. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. EST.
