ATLANTA, Ga. - LaGrange rolled over Oglethorpe 15-3 in its 2013 season opener Wednesday. The Panthers spoiled the Stormy Petrels' inaugural game.
The Panthers set team records with the 15 goals scored and the 12-point margin of victory. It also marked the first win in a season opener for the fourth year program.
Sophomore Sophia Durand scored five goals to lead the Panthers. Sisters Alexis and Tiffany Dillard combined for five goals. Kelsey Griffin had three goals, while Ashley Davis and Olivia Monroe each had a goal.
Alexis Dillard, a freshman, opened the game's scoring with her first collegiate goal. Durand followed with her first goal of the game.
Leading 2-1, the Panthers scored 12 straight unanswered goals over the rest of the first half and into the second half. Durand started the run with back-to-back goals.
Tiffan Dillard, a senior, got the first of her three goals and the Panthers led 5-1. Dillard's goal was followed by two more from Durand and Kelsey Griffin in a 16-second span.
The Panthers closed out the first half scoring with Tiffany Dillard getting her second of the half and Olivia Monroe scoring in the closing seconds for a 9-1 lead.
The second half opened with the Panthers scoring five goals in a 10-minute span. Tiffany Dillard scored her third and final goal of the game to open the second half scoring.
Ashley Davis got her first goal of the game, then Alexis Dillard scored her second to make it 12-1. Griffin scored back-to-back goals and Durand closed out the scoring for the Panthers with her fifth goal with 2:37 left in the game.
The Panthers open their home and USA South portion of the schedule on Sunday against Meredith. Game time is 2 p.m.
