The LaGrange lacrosse team earned its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, while playing host to USA South rival N. C. Wesleyan, 8-7. The win was a career first for head coach Adrienne Berkland, who is in her first season at the helm for LaGrange.
Leading the offensive charge for the Panthers (1-5, 1-3 USA South) was Kelsey Griffin, who scored a game-high three goals. Sophia Durand contributed two goals, while Ashley Davis, Olivia Monroe and Tiffany Dillard all netted one. Dillard scored the game-winning goal with the scored tied 7-7, with just 29 seconds left in the game.
Goalkeeper Chelsea Totaro once again turned in a stellar performance stopping 13 shots, while recording four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Also contributing on the defensive end for LaGrange was Paige Castle, collecting three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Dillard demonstrated her defensive ability tallying three ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls for the Panthers. Audrey Fortmann and Sydney Dorsey each collected two ground balls and caused two turnovers.
The win over the Bishops (0-2, 0-2 USA South) marks the second in program history for LaGrange.
The Panthers return to action on March 16, against visiting Hollins. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
